I feel that I have a high tolerance for gore and the grotesque and enjoy it when it's used well. In this book, it was simply gratuitous. It felt like the author was just trying to make each part more and more disgusting for shock, not for depth or plot. Sad because he is clearly talented and the story itself would be a gripping detective book. But I would not recommend this to anyone I know and I will not be reading more from this author.
