Meine letzte Rezension The Regency Switch von Helen Gaskell
I am not usually such a great fan of this kind of time travel, but because I am in a bit of a regency-mood at the moment, I decided to give this a chance and while it wasn't anything spectacular, it was quite charming. I think people who generally enjoy this kind of plot would really enjoy it and I think people who like historical fiction will find it well worth an afternoon with a cup of tea.

The Regency Switch

I am not usually such a great fan of this kind of time travel, but because I am in a bit of a regency-mood at the moment, I decided to give this a chance and while it wasn't anything spectacular, it was quite charming.     Der Astronaut

    Nachdem ich dieses Buch einmal gelesen hatte, musste ich es sofort noch einmal lesen! Wenn Freundschaft, Hartnäckigkeit und eine gehörige Portion Wissenschaft und Glück zusammenkommen, kann die Zukunft vielleicht doch noch gerettet werden.

    Sword Catcher - Die Chroniken von Castellan

    Der Aufbau der Welt ist tiergründig und detailliert, ohne den Leser zu überwältigen, und die politischen Verstrickungen sind äußerst fesselnd - jede Menge Intrigen, wechselnde Bündnisse und versteckte Absichten, aber die Geschichte ist so geschrieben, dass man ihr leicht folgen kann. Was mir jedoch besonders auffiel waren die Beziehungen der Charaktere. Es gibt eine tolle Mischung aus Freundschaften, Spannung und "slow burn romance". Die Art und Weise, wie die Charaktere Kontakte knüpfen, sich gegenseitig herausfordern und wachsen, wirkte sehr natürlich und ist mit grosser emotionaler Tiefe. Auch die Darstellung von Minderheiten hat mir gut gefallen – sie werden locker und respektvoll behandelt, einfach ein normaler Teil der Welt, was erfrischend war. Allerdings fand ich einige Kulturen zu deutlich an die reale Welt angelehnt; hier hätte ich mir einen subtileren Ansatz gewünscht. Insgesamt ist es jedoch eine starke, charakterbasierte Fantasy mit einer großartigen Auftakt für den Rest der Serie. Ich bin definitiv süchtig!

    The Song of Achilles

    This is one of my favourite books of all time. The depth of emotion explored in this book is phenomenal and whether you enjoy the classics or not, I am convinced that this story will make you both laugh and cry and feel with all your heart for the two main characters. I was both impatient to turn the next page and read on, but at the same time wishing I could stop time forever so I never had to finish reading this book.

    The Handmaid's Tale

    This book gave me chills. We follow June, a young woman serving as a handmaid for the politically influential commander Fred Waterford, who has been forced to give up everything, even her own name; she is now known only as Offred - Or "Of Fred". Her only worth is serving in the totalitarian regime of Gilead. Although the book was written more than 30 years ago, there are chilling parallels to the world and politics we see today. I can only recommend it to anyone who wants to read a story about how wrong a society can go when we allow politics to become radical and become compliant in protectinc civil rights.

    The Memory Keeper

    In the present we follow Archaeologist Jennifer Dawson as she discovers a Spitfire from WW2 and begins to excavate it and learn it's secrets. Meanwhile she deals with her own problems and those of her family. In the past we follow pilot Bella Gardner who is experiencing the war as it goes on. These two narratives come together beautifully and reveal that perhaps the past and the present are not so far removed from each other as it may seem. This book manages to both tell a story of great emotional depth on a personal scale as well as discuss themes such as history, loss, love, feminism, war and what is really worth fighting for.
