Sheila M. Peace has been a Senior Lecturer in the School of Health and Social Welfare at the Open University since 1990, prior to which she was a Senior Research Officer and founder member of the Centre for Environmental and Social Studies in Ageing at the University of North London. She has a long record of research in the area of environmental well-being in later life especially within residential care.

Caroline Holland is a Research Fellow in the School of Health and Social Welfare at the Open University having previously worked in housing with local authorities and Registered Social Landlords. She has recently researched housing histories and is currently focusing on the domestic environment in later life.
