Hazel, a perpetual liar, is fifteen and lives with her extended family and David, her stepfather who she hates for breaking up her parents. Hazel meets Simon, forty, married, father of three teenage boys and Hazel falls in love with Simon. Hazel becomes pregnant by a younger man and almost dies when a very jealous Simon beats her almost to death.
