At first, A Month in the Country was a struggle to get into. The written dialect and the quiet, rural setting made it difficult to find my footing, and I wasn’t sure whether the story would ever open up to me. But as I continued, something shifted. The second half drew me in completely — the atmosphere deepened, the characters came alive, and I found myself unexpectedly moved by the subtle beauty of it all.
By the end, what began as a slow read had turned into something quite melancholy. The final pages lingered with me long after I closed the book — tender, nostalgic, and heartbreakingly human.
