A swamp of secrets.

Bewertung (Mitglied der Book Circle Community) am 16.01.2024

Bewertungsnummer: 2110327

Bewertet: Buch (Gebundene Ausgabe)

Greg Iles throws you right back to the era of the Ku Klux Klan and its gruesome crimes. The story is declared fictitious with an air of reality swinging with it. As soon as you begin to read you dive into the southern swing. You witness the struggle between black and white people and the crimes that result from it. The author brings the horrific crimes close to you with such an easyness as if it were a walk in the park. Greg Iles writes straight to the point, with no sugarcoating. Some might not like the author’s straightforward approach. Natchez Burning is a part of a series but can also be read without following the order. I usually don’t give much to the praise written on a book cover. I prefer to build my own opinion and then compare my thoughts with other critics. But here I must confess they are spoken truthfully. I don’t know if there exists a limit of how many twists a book should have, but if so Natchez Burning has exceeded it many times. Those twists keep the plot driving forward, they all share a significance and help to keep the suspense on a high level.

a killer story

Bewertungsnummer: 1293433

Bewertet: Buch (Taschenbuch)

Extremely well written story about a very dark time - in and around Natchez. Captures my imagination from the first to the last page. A great variety of characters, some of the details are hard to read - heart wrenching. The next book Bone Tree is waiting for me.
