Stress at work has become an inevitable part of people's life and readily acknowledge being the most prominent and pervading feature of modern organization attracting the attention of many psychologists and researchers. The study was conducted in Government Rajendra Medical College and Hospital, Patiala (Punjab, India). The level of burnout was found high in one dimension of burnout out of three dimensions. According to MBI scale, the rate of burnout among staff nurses was on higher side. The youngsters were more prone to burnout comparative to group of elders. In case of burnout among married and singles, the difference was negligible. The level of burnout was observed high in professional graduates (Nursing) comparative to under graduates (General Nursing and Midwifery). The peer cohesion, another dimension of work environment, both groups did not attain the significance level in depersonalization whereas in other two dimensions, difference was significant. Work pressure emerged as least significant factor. Work environment and its dimensions except work pressure contributing to burnout and these are responsible factors which contribute to burnout.
