Enchanting 3rd Wallflower Story

Mag aus Berlin am 19.01.2021

Bewertungsnummer: 702752

Bewertet: Buch (Taschenbuch)

In her Wallflower Quartet Lisa Kleypas tells the stories of four young girls - Annabelle, the American sisters Lillian and Daisy, and Evangeline - all presumed wallflowers, who band together to find a husband. This third book is dedicated to Evangeline, the shyest of them all. Red-haired, freckled, and stuttering terribly, she always keeps in the background, so no man will ever notice her. But she is in dire need of a husband, who can protect her from her cruel, greedy relatives, in whose hands she was given by her father, an ex-boxer and now gamehell owner. As she will never attract a man in a ballroom, Evangeline comes up with an unconventional plan: late in the evening she visits the vicious, promiscuos, but certainly handsome rake Viscount St. Vincent unchaperoned in his house to propose marriage to him! She knows that he is so badly in need of money that he even kidnapped her rich wallflower friend Lillian shortly before her planned wedding to his boyhood friend Lord Westcliff. St. Vincent's intentions were abruptly ended with a thorough beating by Westcliff, so Evangeline stands a chance that St. Vincent might marry her, because of the money she'll soon inherit from der dying father. Evangeline knows two things for certain: first, there will never be a love match between them, second, he'll never be monogamous. But marriage to him will at least free her from the clutches of her malicious relatives. And this is all she wants from him. So she tells St. Vincent her conditions for the marriage: she will keep part of her money to herself and she will share his bed only once to prevent an annullment, but there will never be any lovemaking afterwards. As desperate for money as Evangeline is to marry, St. Vinvent agrees and they both take off for Gretna Green within an hour. But it takes some time in a narrow carriage to get there, so there is plenty of time to watch, talk and get to know each other.......... Can this shy, stuttering girl reach his cold heart and reform the villain after all? This certainly is another entertaining, easy to read romance by Lisa Kleypas. I enjoyed it tremendously and couldn't stop reading. (This comment refers to another edition of the book.)
