Raven Cycle 1. The Raven Boys If you kiss your true love, he will die

Maggie did a good job of making this a very spooky, coming out of age books, with teenagers solving crazy mystery and just trying to survive. Obviously, this book is ya, but it was well written and pleasure to read that i can recommend it regardlessly of your age. Fingers crossed for the next book, because that cliffhanger was mean!

The characters and the mysterious atmosphere were what pulled me in from the first few pages on, especially after getting to know more about each person, slowly but surely. Honestly, it feels a little like the book is teasing the reader at first and then slowly pulls them more and more into its story, like a predator and its pray (but in a good way). The friendships that build throughout the book are so likeable and wholesome and I found myself wishing to be part of their group, to go on adventures along them and look for the hidden secrets of that world. It's definitely a vibe over plot book so it might not be for everyone but I had so much fun reading it and the end made me (first of all, gasp, and) want to continue reading immediately- which I did.

There are psychics and ghosts, very human characters and badass females, magical places and sentient trees... The plot of 'The Raven Boys' is a bit hard to explain but the feeling you get while reading it isn't: It feels like magic is within reach.

Wann immer ich 'the Raven Cycle' irgendwie beschreiben muss, fällt mir das Wort ‚Roadtrip‘ ein. Und genau so fühlt sich die gesamte Reihe für mich an: Wie ein Roadtrip mit den besten Freunden, wo ganz nebenbei auch noch gefiederte Dämonen aus Träumen entsteigen und öfters mal Leylinien, wiederauferstehende Könige oder tödliche Prophezeiungen erwähnt werden. Ein klassischer Sonntagsausflug also. Nicht wahr? …Warum also nicht einsteigen?

Initially, I had low expectations for this book and only picked it up on a friend's recommendation. As someone who doesn't typically enjoy young adult literature, I was pleasantly surprised by this one. While it's not the best book I've ever read, it was still enjoyable. The beginning was a bit confusing, and it took some time for me to grasp what the characters were searching for, but I found myself invested in the story nonetheless. One of the standout aspects of the book was the unique and well-developed personalities of each character. Each one had their own backstory and quirks that made them special in their own way. While the plot may not have been the most interesting I've come across, I appreciated that it took a different direction from what I usually read. Overall, I can confidently say that I liked this book.
