    Fantastisches Bombay und indische Kultur

    Ein wirklich spannendes und tolles Buch, mitreisend und alles hat er wirklich selbst erlebt! Muss man gelesen haben, insbesondere wenn man schon einmal in Indien gewesen ist...aber auch sonst.

    A class of its own

    I've already read this book about ten years ago, now I thought it's time to read it again. It's just every bit as good as I remember it. Its mixture of adventure and crime is absolutely gripping and the surprisingly profound bits of wisdom offered are never tacky or superficial. It feels very real and raw and is one of the most beautiful books I've ever read. Takes your mind off of things and opens it at the same time.

    Anybody who wants to know more about life itsself, has to read this book. It's always amazing when you see what people can get up to in their lifetime. And it's even more remarkable when they write a book about it, that is so riveting and unputdownable as this one. "Shantaram" is like a heart stopping rollercoaster full of humanity and love for all mankind. If you havn't already read it, do so. It's worth it. S.Krautz

    Oh yeah

    It's been a long time since you read an novel that rocked your world? That shows you things you don't even imagine on this planet? Well this is the right choice! This book takes you to India but unlike other novels you can actually feel, smell and learn the philosophy in India. A book that makes you laugh and cry the same time but also makes you think about a thing or two. I really enjoyed this masterpiece!

    A loooong Journey

    Shantaram has an interesting and grounded true story about a criminal and his redemption far from home, which the author fails to tell in a manner that keeps you interested. It starts in a tone that keeps you wondering if it can maintain the energy, but soon enough it disappoints with its long and boring scene descriptions, which sometimes take so much time to explain that the main narrative becomes somewhat forgotten. After about 200–300 pages, it gains speed again and delivers an action-packed finale, which I found satisfying. Unfortunately, the adapted series is not recommendable.
