1936: Eine Mordserie erschüttert Cambridge. Internationale Kräfte kämpfen um Einfluss. Der nächste Weltkrieg steht kurz bevor. Europa ist in Aufruhr. Die Nazis haben das Rheinland besetzt, Stalin entfesselt in Russland den großen Terror, in Spanien ist der Bürgerkrieg ausgebrochen.Eine Studentin aus Cambridge reist nach Berlin, um einem jüdischen Wissenschaftler gefälschte Papiere zu überbringen. Wenige Wochen später wird sie tot aufgefunden. Nur ihre beste Freundin Lydia glaubt nicht an einen Unfall und vertraut ihren Verdacht Thomas Wilde an. Der Geschichtsprofessor ist in der Universitätsstadt ein Außenseiter, allein schon weil er Amerikaner ist. Dann wird ein politisch exponiertes Ehepaar ermordet. Wilde muss all sein Wissen und Können unter Beweis stellen, um weitere Morde zu verhindern und um die Frau zu retten, die er liebt. Dies ist mein erstes Buch von Rory Clements und es hat mir wirklich gut gefallen. Die Geschichte ist spannend und seine Ermittlungen gut durchdacht und nachvollziehbar. Das mag ich. Die historischen Fakten sind geschickt mit der Story verknüpft. Mir hat der Schreibstil gut gefallen und die verschiedenen Charaktere sind gut herausgearbeitet und glaubwürdig. Ein sehr spannender Spionage-Roman, ich bin neugierig auf mehr.
