Faith A Journey for All

‘Faith’ by Jimmy Carter A book, written by a deep religious man, who tells about his religious believes and how these helped him through life: what his perception was of the era of the Great Depression, his personal stand against racism and other social injustice in his country, his going through hard times in his private life. Anybody is entitled to have his/her personal opinions, but this can become critical, when such a background decides on issues of global importance. With considerations as 'Love your neighbor like you love yourself' and 'Love your enemies', Mr. Carter gave for some forty years the perfidious regime of communist China a legal base for existence. A regime of which the amount of victims is - up to this day - unknown, though guesses go up to eighty million(!) victims. Mr. Carter is still convinced of the rightness of that deal: in return he not only got the sympathy of the Chinese population and its leader Deng Xiaoping, but he also managed to get freedom of worshipping for the Chinese people in return. And so China is now the world's largest bible publisher, he reveals. In case the latter is a relevant trading item, so be it, but I am sure that history would have judged Sir Winston Churchill differently, when he had made such kind of a deal with the Nazi regime in the 1940s. There is no doubt, that Mr. Carter in his book makes clear his honest point of view. It is up to history, though, to qualify this. For me an interesting but non-essential read.
