The Nanny

It didn’t take long to see that there’s more behind the Nanny than just a child-loving woman looking for a job. Those glimpses strewn here and there make it hard to miss the author’s intention. An intention that let me believe I knew who might be accountable. The seed of secrecy is planted early on, and the time travel only adds to that mysterious disappearance of Hanna the Nanny. The first two parts were interesting to read, getting to know the characters, their position in life or how they are related to each other. It was the third part where the suspense picked up, with more twists and revelations. Also a part where new connections were formed and assumed perspectives shifted. I also had to realise how wrong I was when the final curtain fell, and the last missing pieces completed the mystery. What I learned in the process is not to focus on one possibility too soon. This is my second book by the author; there are many more to come to get used to her style. An enjoyable read, with clues flowing beneath the surface, not ready to be grasped or acknowledged. Patience wins the run here. Revealing too many clues in a bunch would have ruined the plot. I thought they were perfectly timed and plausible enough not to disrupt the flow.
