This might be one of the most engaging, thrilling YA-mysteries I have read to date. The characters are very lovable and well thought out, the crime solving is fast paced and well structured. The protagonist is, I'd say, 'as clever as the reader', by which I mean her deduction skills are not that of a superhuman: she makes mistakes, she struggles, but she never jumps to conclusions or pulls information out of thin air. As a reader it is easy to follow her train of thought which makes the novel even more engaging, as you are trying to solve the crime alongside Pip. I can confidently recommend this gem of a book. PS: This review is for the original UK version - there exists a revised US version too, which takes place in the States as opposed to the UK. Personally, I appreciated the British charm.
