Everyone has baggage..

Bewertungsnummer: 2202540

Bewertet: Buch (Gebundene Ausgabe)

Surely everyone has baggage, but going on a four hour road trip to a wedding of a good friend with your Ex because his car broke down and he is the best man? This screams summer romance novel. Light-hearted, over the top but oh so relatable. I enjoy Beth O’Leary’s books a great deal whenever I’m looking for something simple and enjoyable.

not what I’m used to from the author

** 3.25 stars ** Initially, I gave 3.5 stars but while writing this review I realised that I don’t actually care much about it. Which is a shame, as I’ve liked all of the author’s other books so far. My love for her writing style hasn’t changed and I do think that she gets her characters, and has backstories and plots for each one if them. Still, this book just couldn’t grab my attention in the same way the others did. For starters, it was too long. While I get that the story about the two MC’s needs explanation and enough time to explain their history, it felt like it dragged on and on and on … If you know me, you’ll know that I tend to like flashbacks quite a bit. I never really understood when someone said they disliked this particular way of telling a story, but with this book I realised that this method doesn’t work with every plotline. As I knew that they would end up together anyway, I gound the flashbacks so much more interesting, and could have done without the present (which wouldn’t have worked because of the plotline, but still). Though the characters were all written very uniquely, I also thought them to be a bit bland. Not sure why that is. Also, though I do think the story profited from the slightly chaotic and dramatic vibe, the ending was a tad too silly for my taste. Ultimately, I still trust the author’s writing, and will definitely pick up her next book whenever it’ll be published, but this particular one was not for me.
