Laura Shepperson places the voices of women at the forefront and tells their stories with remarkable emotional intensity. The novel’s multi-perspective structure is especially effective: Phaedra’s chapters are deeply moving, and the “Night Chorus” adds a striking, almost tragic dimension to the narrative. The book presents a dark yet highly coherent vision of the ancient world, where themes such as power, violence, and societal structures become clearly visible. Despite the heavy subject matter, the writing remains precise, atmospheric, and elegantly composed. A moving, bold, and modern mythological retelling. Highly recommended.
