An ordinary hero

Thala am 08.03.2025

Bewertungsnummer: 2432550

Bewertet: Buch (Taschenbuch)

I liked Joan a lot. She is her authentic self, always saying what she thinks. She might be on the neurodivergent scale, as she has some problems with social interactions. She likes to be alone and does not have hobbies beside work. So she fully throws herself into work, without free days or a break. She simply enjoys her job as a doctor. She asks herself what it feels like to be at home. Should she feel at home in the US or in China? And how do you live as a modern Chinese American? I enjoyed to follow Joan though New York, through the beginning of the pandemic. This book reminded me a bit of "Eleanor Oliphant". It's like following Joan's thoughts without a chapter break. The story is one long chapter. I do recommend this book as it touches so many different topics from cultural identity to self development as a woman.
