Von vielen Naturinteressierten wird der Rückgang zahlreicher Insektenarten in der freien Landschaft und in den Hausgärten schmerzlich wahrgenommen. Die sinkende Biodiversität wirkt sich aber auch gravierend auf die einzelnen Ökosysteme aus. In diesem Zusammenhang sei nur an die Nahrungsgrundlage für viele Vögel, Fledermäuse und Amphibien sowie an die Bestäubung unzähliger Blütenpflanzen erinnert. Zudem leisten zahllose Insektenarten mit der Bestäubung von Nutzpflanzen einen großen wirtschaftlichen Beitrag, der nicht oder nur unvollständig technisch zu ersetzen ist. Deshalb ist es wichtig, über die Verbreitung und die Bestandsschwankungen bei den Insekten Bescheid zu wissen. 2018 wurde der erste Band des Verbreitungsatlasses der Großschmetterlinge Mecklenburg-Vorpommerns publiziert. Darin sind 184 Arten der Blutströpfchen, Bärenfalter, Schwärmer und Spinnerartigen behandelt worden. Nunmehr liegt der Band 2 für die Eulenfalter (Noctuoidea) vor. Er ist abermals in einen allgemeinen und speziellen Teil gegliedert. Im erstgenannten Teil werden die Eulenfalter vorgestellt, die einzelnen Unterfamilien charakterisiert und es wird auf die Wirkungen des Klimawandels eingegangen. Zudem werden bedeutende Entomologen mit ihrem Lebenslauf vorgestellt. Der spezielle Teil beginnt mit einer Checkliste der behandelten Arten nach neuster Nomenklatur und Systematik. 112.000 aktuelle und historische Datensätze wurden kartographisch ausgewertet und aufbereitet. Anhand von Steckbriefen werden die Arten samt ihrer Ökologie und Gefährdung sowie der Verbreitung in den jeweiligen Lebensräumen vorgestellt. Es findet eine Auswertung der Verbreitungen in verschiedenen Zeitebenen statt. Mit zahlreichen Fotografien und Bildern versehen, präsentiert dieses Buch 368 Arten und 3 Artkomplexe aus 27 Unterfamilien und wendet sich damit nicht nur an professionelle Entomologen, sondern auch an passionierte Laien und interessierte Naturliebhaber.

Many people interested in nature have painfully noticed the decline in numerous insect species in the open countryside and in home gardens. However, the declining biodiversity also has a serious impact on the individual ecosystems. In this context, only the food sources for many birds, bats and amphibians as well as the pollination of innumerable flowering plants should be remembered. In addition, countless species of insects make a major economic contribution by pollinating crops, which cannot be technically replaced. It is therefore important to know about the distribution and fluctuations in the number of insects. In the year 2018 the first volume of the distribution atlas of the larger moth of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania was published. 184 species of burnet moth, tussock and tiger moth, hawkmoth and silkworm moth have been dealt with. Volume 2 for the owlet moths (Noctuoidea) is now available. It is again divided again into a general and a special part. In the first part, the superfamily of owlet moths are presented, the individuel subfamilies are characterized and the effects of climate change are discussed. In addition, important entomologists are presented with their curriculum vitae. The special part begins with a checklist of the species according to the latest nomenclature and systematics. 112,000 current and historical data sets were cartographically evaluated and processed. The species, including their ecology and endangerment as well as their distribution in the habitats, are presented on the basis of profiles. An assessment of the distribution takes place in different time levels. With numerous photographs and pictures, this book presents 368 species and 3 species complexes from 27 subfamilies and is therefore not only adressed at professional entomologists, but also at passionate amateurs and interested nature lovers.
