Der Stil und Humor von TCBoyle gefällt mir sehr, dieser Roman ist keine Ausnahme. Als Amerikaner weiß er wie blöd und ahnungslos seine Kompatrioten sein können, ob in der Dürre von Kalifornien oder bei Orkan in Florida. Die Schwester kauft sich einen Python als Schmuckstück während der Bruder Insekten zählt, bis er von einer Zicke gestochen wird. Ich bin gespannt, wie die Geschichte enden wird.

This is T.C. Boyle as we know and love him. His latest work is characteristically brilliant, a quintessential Boyle novel, managing to portray an entertaining and disturbingly realistic story with wit and finesse. It depicts the lives of various family members navigating their "normal" family and love lives amidst droughts, floods, and wildfires. Packaging the weighty themes of climate change, altered animal and insect behavior, and the adaptation strategies of a (at least trying to be) environmentally conscious society into an entertaining narrative is no easy feat. Especially given the tendency of entertainment and print media to over-chew current societal problems to the point of becoming indigestible, quickly turning people off and making it nearly impossible to avoid boredom with even the most important societal issues, even for those who strive to be informed and enlightened. This isn't the case with "Blue Skies." The novel strikes a wonderfully entertaining balance between social criticism, satire, and humor, all seasoned with his fantastic style and creative plot elements that provide plenty of suspense. As a long-time T.C. Boyle fan, "Blue Skies" has given me yet another reason to adore his work. Highly recommended for fans of sophisticated entertainment and high-quality literature.
