Dr Xu is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at UCL. He received his PhD at the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) in 2011, with the Chu Yuet Wah Chinese Academy of Science Award for Outstanding Doctoral Student. He carried out postdoctoral research at Boston College (USA) and the University of Alberta (Canada), and then worked as a Senior Scientist at the Technical University of Ilmenau (Germany), before he joined UCL Chemistry in 2019. Dr Xüs group is interested in beyond-lithium energy storage technologies including Na/K/Ca-ion batteries and Na/K metal anode batteries, with a focus on structural defects of electrode materials and the associated (electro)chemical process of ion transport in the electrode materials and ion transfer at the electrode/electrolyte interface, as well as modification of current collectors and separators for stable metal electrochemical deposition.
