The truth lies in the past

Bewertung (Mitglied der Orell Füssli Book Circle Community) am 21.04.2026

Bewertungsnummer: 3116326

Bewertet: Buch (Taschenbuch)

Imagine trying to convince your family that the new neighbours are planning something terrible, but you don’t know what it might be. The probable answer might be that you are completely mistaken, and you should keep out of their affair. This is exactly what Lena is facing: no one believes her. Does this make her stop investigating further? Never would she do that; that’s not what she is. It’s as if something is dragging her towards this beautiful house. Despite her initial reluctance, Lena steps deeper into parts she doesn’t belong in. At one point, she puts herself into massive danger, and only Lena can put an end to the chaos by facing the truth she has so long tried to avoid. It’s always a pleasure reading one of Claire Douglas’s creations. It seems that each of her books begins with an air of innocence, introducing the characters, as if setting the basis. A basis where the plot can be built, and easy for the reader to follow the progress. This easy introduction is deceiving because this is the start of the suspense. What felt first as an easy, comfortable read develops into a fast-paced ride. The twists and turns keep the plot alive, in turn with the insights into past events. A very conclusive read that never got me bored.
