Cassie and Nick

The summer weather outside is way too hot for my taste and I’m desperately craving fall. And I already read my first spooky read of the season with Haunted Ever After by Jen DeLuca. I love the title, the cover (peek at the little ghostie in the window) and the vibes of this book.   The story is set in the small town of Boneyard Key in Florida and it’s supposedly the most haunted town in all of the state and therefore people come for ghost tourism. I really like some paranormal vibes and I really liked how this was included in the story with text and poetry magnet messages while also exploring some of the history of the town. I also don’t really think of spooky vibes in a coastal setting, but it totally worked out in this book and therefore it’s also perfect to read from the transition of summer into fall.   Nick is the owner of the Hallowed Grounds coffee shop, and that place was so cozy, and I would totally visit it. I also loved the little details like the ghost coffee illustration on the title page. Nick grew up in the town and he is very used to all the ghostly stuff and doesn’t regard it much. But when a new girl comes to town and buys the most haunted houses of the whole town, his perspective on it changes. He has total grumpy vibes but slowly defrosts and I really liked him.   Cassie needs a change of scenery and Boneyard Key seemed perfect for her and she didn’t really know about the paranormal activities and slowly explores it. I loved her curiosity and determination and I loved how she made her house a home.   The story starts off rather slowly and that was the only thing I wish was different and I would have liked to see more of Cassie and Nick being a couple. But I adore them as a couple and loved all their cute encounters and bickering in the coffee shop. The paranormal vibes were on point in this story, and I already can’t wait to read more.   If you’re also longing for fall or want a cute paranormal romance, this is a must read. 4,5 stars.
