Slow-burn historical Gothic thriller

Thala am 15.04.2024

Bewertungsnummer: 2178947

Bewertet: Buch (Gebundene Ausgabe)

It was very interesting for me to read a story based in historical Sri Lanka. I learned a lot about the mistreatment of women at that time, of women being only worthy in giving birth, if they are married, of course. Also, I learned a lot about colonialism in Sri Lanka and why some people have European family names. I really liked this story, but for the first half of the book, the pacing was really slow and not much happened. Amara was always walking through the jungle and was bullied by others. She is in consequent fear of a specific demon. The pace went faster in the last quarter of the book. I loved how the heroine developed herself towards the end and I was also shocked at the same time. If you love slow-burn thrillers, this might be the perfect read for you!
