The presentation and exploitation of children online, especially on social media, is becoming an increasingly important topic and the main theme of this great novel. Our protagonist, Allie, has a traumatic past with her influencer mother and constantly tries to escape from it, living under the radar. Always afraid of being found out by her parents, she ends up in a small town or more a Pub. The Lair, the pub in town, becomes her workplace, and her absolutely hot boss, who previously served in the military, is a few years older, and now runs the bar, is a mystery to Allie from the start. He treats her well, is strict, knows what he wants, but is still always a gentleman, driving her to her car in the evening. This book is one of my absolute favorites and will always have a special place on my shelf. The characters and their various facets touched me deeply – it’s hard to put into words. Lisina Coney’s books always touch me, but this time with breathtaking intensity, the consequences of children on social media and the consequences for these children are shown- through the eyes of a affected person. Topics like PTSD and other mental illnesses also find their place here. All the characters are lovingly developed and make the book to a wonderful experience. I can truly recommend it to everyone. No matter your reading preferences, this masterpiece is truly worth reading.
