i am genuine when i say this: ballad of sword and wine is world-class literature. historic fiction is my favorite genre. but even outside of the outstanding way this series represents this genre, it might be among the best pieces of literature i have read. when you think about danmei, you assume first and foremost its romance. and, in many cases, romance is the core and main plot of it. of course, there is nothing wrong with romantic literature, we have loved romance for as long as we have written. and then you come across a book series such as this one, which makes you think about how narrow-minded books can often be. especially if confined within dull standards of genre. and then you become so utterly absorbed in a story that it just lives on within you long after you first started reading it. and having known this kind of euphoria, you search for more books to scratch this itch, but they dont. yes, this book series is complicated and you have to take notes to not get lost chasing after the narrative. yes, this book has beautifully dynamic characters and relationships. yes, this book series makes you love page upon page of grain trade route discussion. in short: world building, characters and plot is excellent. please read this. tell your friends and family or whoever you want. i cant wait for volume 6.
