Let us be open minded

Bewertung aus Dübendorf am 18.01.2021

Bewertungsnummer: 1428329

Bewertet: eBook (ePUB)

Letting an opinion stand that you disagree with is a sign of strong character. If you simply give a bad rating because the author or the title of the book is contrary to your opinion, you should work on your character. Let us be open minded also for opinions which are different on your world views. Burning or banning books is a thing from dark times. Let us not revisit those times.

Too Long-Drawn-Out!

Bewertung aus Zürich am 20.04.2021

Bewertungsnummer: 1485026

Bewertet: Buch (Taschenbuch)

Let's get one thing straight: yes, in the wrong hands, this book might be very harmful and detrimental to others. However, it is also important to know how those exact toxic sickos can behave, to better guard yourself against them. Now, moral standpoints aside, I think this book has some huge negatives, but also a few positives. On one hand, the book is extremely lengthy and it repeats their stories quite a lot in various chapters throughout the book. Whether it is for a better understanding of the concepts, because of a lack of examples, or for the author to reach a planned word count, is up for debate. However, I do not believe that you need around 450 pages to get your points across, especially if you keep using the same stories from different viewpoints. This repetition can get extremely frustrating, to the point of you wanting to stop reading it. Additionally, it all just feels like a waste of time, plus the author sounds almost patronizing and like a know-it-all, as if the successful experiences of a few exceptional individuals now effortlessly translates to the majority of people. Or maybe it does, who knows. On the other hand, I enjoyed the small added anecdotes and the overall historical references a lot, which makes me paint a more accurate picture of the past. The wording is also quite sophisticated, I must say. Although, all in all, I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone because of its overly drawn-out and annoyingly repetitive scripting nature.
