Highly recommend

Love in Exile is such an honest and insightful reflection on love, dating, and self-worth. Shon Faye writes about what she used to believe love was, and how that changed once she experienced it herself. What I really liked is how she mixes her personal story as a trans woman with sharp social commentary. She questions how much of what we call “love” or “motherhood” actually comes from genuine desire - and how much is shaped by patriarchy and social expectations. Faye’s writing is both intelligent and deeply vulnerable. Her perspective outside of heteronormative norms gives such a refreshing view of what love and relationships can look like when you step outside society’s scripts. I listened to the audiobook, which I highly recommend - hearing her read it herself makes it even more powerful and intimate. It’s hard to rate a memoir since it’s someone’s real life, but this one definitely stayed with me. It made me think a lot about how we define love, success, and womanhood - and how much of that we can reclaim for ourselves.
