Auf das Buch wurde ich zunächst durch das ansprechende Cover aufmerksam. Obwohl ich bisher noch nichts vom Autor gelesen hatte, hat mich das Thema sofort interessiert. Die Leseprobe gab mir nur einen kleinen Einblick, aber sie weckte meine Neugier. Der Autor arbeitet mit vielen Zitaten und erzählt zahlreiche Geschichten – sowohl aus seinem eigenen Leben als auch aus anderen Büchern. Das hat mir besonders gut gefallen, da man dadurch viele verschiedene Perspektiven kennenlernt. Das Thema des Buches ist stellenweise anspruchsvoll, daher erfordert es Konzentration und eine gewisse Bereitschaft, sich intensiv damit auseinanderzusetzen. Es ist keine leichte Lektüre, aber genau das macht ihren Reiz aus. Besonders beeindruckt hat mich, wie der Autor auch schwierige Themen wie Depressionen aufgreift – und dabei erklärt, wie man Betroffene besser verstehen und unterstützen kann. Am Ende fühlt man sich, wie es der Autor ausdrückt, wie ein „Menschensommelier“ – jemand, der Menschen besser wahrnehmen und kennenlernen kann. Ich empfehle dieses Buch allen, die gerne tiefgründige Sachbücher lesen und bereit sind, sich auf ein komplexes Thema wirklich einzulassen.

David Brooks' How to Know a Person – Wie wir anderen wirklich begegnen und echte Verbundenheit schaffen ist ein Buch, das man nicht einfach liest, sondern erlebt. Es richtet sich an alle, die sich nach echter Nähe und sinnvollen Gesprächen sehnen – ob im Beruf, in der Familie oder im Alltag mit Fremden. In einer Welt, die oft laut, schnell und oberflächlich ist, lädt Brooks dazu ein, langsamer, aufmerksamer und mit mehr Empathie auf andere Menschen zuzugehen. Was dieses Buch so besonders macht, ist seine menschliche Wärme. Brooks schreibt weder belehrend noch theoretisch, sondern mit spürbarer Zuneigung zum Menschen. Seine Sprache ist klar und nahbar, oft mit einem leisen Humor versehen – als würde ein guter Freund erzählen, was er über die Jahre über zwischenmenschliche Beziehungen gelernt hat. Brooks zeigt, wie viel Kraft darin liegt, Fragen zu stellen, die über das Übliche hinausgehen. Es macht Mut, sich auf Begegnungen einzulassen, auch wenn sie manchmal herausfordernd sind.
