Rezension

A very funny book... Rom-coms need tears the way bread dough needs salt, and here the mixture strikes a perfect balance between sweet and savory New York Times Book Review

Shay and Dominic

Bewertungsnummer: 1709007

Bewertet: Buch (Taschenbuch)

The Ex Talk by Rachel Lynn Solomon was always a book that intrigued me and I finally read it recently. The book is about Shay and Dominic who work for the same radio station. Shay is a producer at the station for ten years and Dominic recently got his masters in journalism and he is more of an investigative reporter. The situation of radio stations is dwindling down more and more and so they need a new hit show. That is how The Ex Talk is born and Shay and Dominic become the hosts of it. They spent more and more time together and have to pretend to be exes even though they hate each other. I was hooked on this story from the beginning and Shay and Dominic‘s banter and chemistry was spot on. I adore these two and feel in love with them. Totally recommend this book.

„The Ex Talk“ is a fun and well-rounded romantic comedy with swoon-worthy as well as heart-breaking elements and will keep you thoroughly entertained throughout. Shay Goldstein has always loved working at the Seattle public radio station, ever since she started the job a decade ago. But the newest additon to the team, recent college graduate Dominic Yeun, knows how to ruffle her feathers. When the two of them are chosen to host a new show, and on top of that are forced to pretend they used to date, Shay is not amused. But what if this could be the opportunity she’s been waiting for? And what if Dominic wasn’t quite as obnoxious as she thought? Going into this, I was quite sure that I’d enjoy „The Ex Talk“. What I did not anticipate, however, was how well-rounded and inclusive it turned out to be. The characters are quite diverse, not only in regard to their personalities, but also ethnicity, religion and sexuality, which I love. Shay and Dominic’s chemistry is off the charts and I am sure that their constant banter had me laughing out loud more than just once. If you are a fan of the enemies-to-lovers trope, you simply have to love them. I appreciate that this isn’t just a romance, but also a story about finding one’s place in the world, learning to stand up for oneself, dealing with misogyny, and coping with grief. Also, it’s about more than just romantic relationships – friendship and family are of at least equal importance in this book. I recommend „The Ex Talk“ to fans of the enemies-to-lovers trope as well as readers who appreciate diversity and authenticity in their books.
