Audition A Novel

Audition blurs the lines between reality and fiction and was something completely new to me. The book is devided into two parts. In the first part the unnamed protagonist meets Xavier, a young man who could be her son, but she has never had children. In the second part the book gets less straight forward as Xavier moves into the home of the protagonist. The story leaves a lot of room for interpretation but the little clues scattered throughout make it a very engaging read. I really liked the parallels between the story and the play the protagonist stars in as well as the connections between the past, present and future. At its core it is a book about family, desire, regret, delusion and the big What If.
