4½ stars. My first Daphne Elliot and now I'm addicted
The narrators of Evie & Jasper pulled me right in and made this a cozy listen and I could definitely feel the golden retriever vibes. Evie sometimes slightly grated on me but grew on me once we got more of her backstory and family dynamics. Jasper was nearly too perfect to believe that he was a bit of a playboy reformed baby daddy but then he just renders everyone speechless by his tenacity and tenderness. Oh, and the “secrets” aren’t the surprise baby or the omissions, they are the life threatening type giving a bit of a thriller subplot.
I would say this interconnected series could be read as standalone – but I am hoping the “secrets” are actually to be continued because I didn’t like/believe the outcome and feel like we are being left hanging with loose ends. Guess I will know in a few weeks which cannot pass quick enough as I am looking forward to book 2. There’s a scene in the book when Jasper has a bit of a heart to heart with his grumpy brother Josh and I immediately though “please let book 2 be Josh’s” and was soooo happy when the prologue contained a teaser. Oh boy, he’s in for some chaos when the newbie in town will derail him from his tracks and disturb his quiet.
