Rezension

'Dead good...the conspirators, snakes and schemers burst off the pages.' Peterborough Telegraph

'It's probably wrong to admit that reading about a serial killer is comforting but there is something hugely reassuring about sinking back into Kitty Collins' world in IBYLGIAC. This time we go way deeper into Kitty's psyche, and I thought the author did an incredible job making her human and sympathetic - especially given the whole 'she's a serial killer who loves mashing up bodies in abattoirs' side of things. It's darkly hilarious too, of course, not to mention packed with some gorgeous south of France glam. I was gutted when it was over and stared at the next books on my TBR a little bit accusingly for not being this one.' Caroline Corcoran

I Bet I Look Ready for the Coffin Now

Bewertet: Buch (Taschenbuch)

When I found out I had a thing for fictional serial killers, this book immediately caught my eye. A female killer? Social media satire? A dark comedy with blood and boldness? Sign me up. Unfortunately, the only thing this book slayed was my patience. Meet Kitty Collins: a former influencer turned vigilante with too much time and too few boundaries. She’s rich, beautiful, and supposedly giving up murder for her sweet, supportive boyfriend. But she just can’t stop herself. Because, well—men. The idea of a femme-fatale avenger taking down misogynists has plenty of appeal. But Kitty’s kill list swings wildly from genuinely dangerous predators to merely irritating men with bad opinions. A therapist who crosses a line? Sketchy, sure. But worth killing? Not exactly. It’s hard to root for someone who treats bad judgment as a capital offense. The plot doesn’t help. It’s mostly predictable, and the few twists feel unearned. The supporting characters feel underdeveloped and lack dimension, offering little to challenge or deepen Kitty’s perspective. And when it all wraps up neatly, it feels more like convenience than closure. There were some funny, biting moments. But they got lost in shallow introspection and Kitty’s repetitive inner debates. I didn’t savor this book. I endured it. This had the potential to be sharp, subversive fun. Instead, it read like influencer fanfiction with a body count. If you're looking for a morally grey killer with real bite - look elsewhere.
