Portrait

Dr. Ratan Tiwari is a distinguished agricultural scientist with over 30 years of experience in genomics and molecular breeding for enhancing wheat resistance to biotic and abiotic stresses. He began his career at the ICAR-Directorate of Pulses Research, Kanpur, and now serves as Director at the ICAR-Indian Institute of Wheat and Barley Research (IIWBR), Karnal. Dr Tiwari holds a PhD and MSc in Genetics and Plant Breeding, and a BSc in Agriculture from Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi. He has played a key role in developing eight wheat varieties, cultivated on approximately 6.9 million hectares, and eight genetic stocks. Dr Tiwari has published over 100 research and review articles in peer-reviewed journals and reviewed more than 50 manuscripts for reputed international publishers. He has supervised five PhD and five MSc students, established academic collaborations and MoUs with leading institutions, and facilitated student training. He has also been invited to serve as an expert at international meetings in Mexico, the UK, France, and Morocco.

Dr. Binay Kumar Singh is Principal Scientist at ICAR-Indian Institute of Wheat and Barley Research (IIWBR), Karnal, with over 18 years of research experience in genomics and molecular breeding for stress resilience in rice, wheat, and mustard. He holds a PhD and MSc in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology from ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi, and a BSc in Agriculture from Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi. Dr Singh has held key roles, including Head of the Division of Crop Science at the ICAR-Research Complex for North Eastern Hill Region, Meghalaya; Scientist at the Directorate of Rapeseed Mustard Research, Bharatpur; and Senior and Principal Scientist at the ICAR-Indian Institute of Agricultural Biotechnology (IIAB), Ranchi. He has contributed to seven crop varieties and registered three genetic stocks. Dr Singh has supervised eight MSc students and co-supervised several postgraduate and doctoral scholars. He has established over 20 institutional MoUs and collaborations with start-ups to advance research and innovation. His publications include 80 research papers, 16 popular articles, four books, 18 book chapters, and several technical bulletins. He has also edited and reviewed over 30 manuscripts for high-impact journals.

Dr. Ravindra Kumar is Senior Scientist (Plant Pathology) at ICAR-Indian Institute of Wheat and Barley Research (IIWBR), Karnal, with over 14 years of experience in agricultural research, particularly wheat pathology. He holds a PhD and MSc in Plant Pathology from Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi, and a BSc (Ag) from Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut. His research focuses on plant disease management, biological control, seed pathology, and plant–microbe interactions. Dr Kumar has contributed to the development of two wheat varieties, DBWH221 and DBW 377. He has published 46 research articles in reputed journals, authored two textbooks, edited three books, contributed 24 book chapters, and written numerous technical bulletins and popular articles. He is an active member of several professional societies and serves as an Academic and Technical Editor for multiple international journals.
