Based on real events and real case files we experience a village's descent into the witch craze in 17th century England. Not only does she bring history to life, you can also tell that A. K. Blakemore is a poet by profession, as she soulfully characterizes the women behind the historical facts in beautiful prose. The way she describes the women's growing despair and the slowly but steadily increasing tension in Manningtree made this book almost impossible to put down. If you are interested in witch trials and love well researched historical fiction, you will certainly enjoy this book.
