The Dragon Republic Poppy War

If you told me 6 months earlier, that I would finish this book under a month (thats less for me) , I would laughed at your face. 650 pages sounded insane for me, but I would now be glad to read 1000 pages. Yes, the fighting style might be a lot and quite hard to understand BUT this does not change the fact that the “dragon republic” is a MASTERPIECE. While reading the book you will face a LOT of emotions, anger, confusion, frustration and BETRAYAL. You will drive deeper into the life of Rin as a soldier, commander and friend. She kinda is in a crisis of not knowing what to do or if she still has the energy to live. Anyway, if you read “the poppy war” I would encourage you to keep one with the trilogy (ITS GONNA BE SOO WORTH IT).

For people who are not native English, this book is difficult to understand. In order to understand all the strategies and actions, you need a high sense of English understanding. The characters stand out from all the characters I have met so far. However, this book is also very focussed on the various fights, which is a bit exhausting to understand in some places. Otherwise, however, this book is great and I can only recommend it to everyone who wants to know how bloody, dirty and dark a war really can be.

The Dragon Republic is a new level of shocking fantasy. The character's development is extraodinary. It's complexer than the first book but I love it. I thought nothing that Kuang could write in the second book of the poppy wars could surpise me. I was so wrong. Magnificent.

Auch in diesem Band ist Rin wahnsinnig selbstgerecht. Sie ist auch nach Altans Tod von ihm besessen. Ihre Selbstvorwürfe und inneren Altan Monologe haben einen grossen Teil des Buches eingenommen. Wesentlich weniger Kriegsverbrechen als in Band 1 waren für Schockeffekte enthalten. Dafür nimmt die Welt der Götter/Schamanen einen grösseren Teil ein. Wieder trifft Rins Umfeld viel Leid, damit sie daran wachsen kann. Ich wünschte, sie würde selbst mehr Leid erfahren, da dann ihre Wut und selbstgerechte Art besser begründet wären. Die Überlegungen zu unterschiedlichen religiösen Systemen waren spannend, hätte aber eher in den Unterricht im ersten Band gepasst. Die Diskussionen über eine Republik und wie diese erreicht werden könnte, mochte ich hingegen sehr. Nicht so spannend wie Band 1, aber immer noch lesenswert. Ich werde den letzten Band sicher auch noch lesen, auch wenn es nicht zu meinen Lieblingsserien gehören wird.
