Many men and women serving in the Royal Navy, Army and Royal Air Force, as well as Home Front units, died at 'home'. Some were lost to wounds suffered during action abroad, some to the influenza epidemic at the end of WW1, others to German attacks on the United Kingdom, and a few to a range of other causes. This work tells the stories of those buried in the cemeteries of the South West of England and South Wales, focusing on the 35 burial grounds in which 100 or more are commemorated, or have graves cared for, by the CWGC. The counties covered are Dorset, Devon, Cornwall, Somerset, Gloucestershire, Wiltshire and Oxfordshire, together with cemeteries in South Wales in Glamorganshire, Pembrokeshire and Monmouthshire. Michael Scott has included those who were honoured with awards, the young, women, those who held senior ranks and those who may be regarded as 'notable', such as those who played sport to a high standard. A selection of burial grounds with fewer than 100 CWGC burials is also covered, along with a small number of individuals whose names and stories may be of interest but who are not themselves commemorated by the CWGC. An invaluable addition to the collection of anyone interested in those whose resting places are cared for by the Commission.
