The Name of the Wind The legendary must-read fantasy masterpiece

An innkeeper and his apprentice, that's what one is supposed to find. But Chronicler knows better. He has come to the legendary Kvothe to write down his story - the truth and not all the stories that have evolved around time. The stories are exaggerated of course and a lot of them pure fiction, but Kvothes' real story is anything but plain and simple... It might not sound that enthralling. Someone sitting in an inn and telling his lifetime story. But it actually is! Rothfuss has such a brilliant way of creating a story in a story, of stetting things up in a tavern just to immediately pull you out again and into the world he has created. Kvothes story is honest up to the very last detail and yet so moving and engaging that I couldn't stop reading. I have to admit though that the book takes it's time to really get rolling, especially when Kvothe describes what happened to him the first years after his encounter with of the Chandrian. And it is also not a novel to read in a day or two during your coffee break. This story demands time and attention of the reader. BUT good stories take their time to be told and when you decide to stick with it you will be rewarded a thousand times! What I enjoyed most was that every time when I had been consumed by Kvothes story, some event (like a visitor) would draw me back into the tavern, reminding me that I am as well just a listener to a story. It is very well made (not at all in a way that bothers you while reading). But the thing I liked best about the book is that the prologue is repeated at the end. It was such a nice experience because it really send of the feeling that the story has been wrapped into these words. It also gave the notion that this was the first part of the story, a little bit like a play on stage being cut into acts. Very well done.

Alleine als ich den Klappentext las, dachte ich, dieses Buch muss ich lesen! Und tatsaechlich dieses Buch hat mich sehr begeistert und es fiel mir jedes Mal wieder schwer, das Buch aus den Haenden zu legen. Es ist wirklich fesselnd geschrieben, die Story ist glaubwuerdig und man kann es gut nachvollziehen. Den zweiten Teil werde ich auf jeden Fall kaufen!

Ich habe dieses Buch in einem Secondhand Buchladen entdeckt und allein der Gladdentext hat mich gefesselt. Ich habe mich zwingen müssen dieses Buch langsam zu lesen um es in vollen Zügen genießen zu können und mehr davon zu haben. Kvothe ist nicht der übliche Held, auch wenn er aus vielen Dingen heraus kommt, ist es so dass er für alles was er macht einen sehr hohen Preis zahlen muss, für alles was er bekommt einen noch höheren. Er ist zwar ein klassischer Stehaufmännchenheld, allerdings auf sehr sympatische Weiße. Jeder der sich unschlüssig ist, sollte den Gladdentext lesen, wenn der Funke dann noch nicht übergesprungen ist, ist dieses Buch vlt. nicht das Richtige für einen. Alle Anderen werden sagen, dass dieses Buch eines der besten Bücher ist, das je geschrieben wurde.

Das Buch ist von Anfang an spannend und überaus fesselnd. Auch Personen, die der englischen Sprache nich vollständig mächtig sind, können den Inhalt bestens verstehen. Das Buch ist, auch wenn es ein Fantasy-Roman ist komplett vorstellbar. Einfach Grandios...

Patrick Rothfuss' The Name of the Wind is, without a doubt, my all-time favorite novel. The tale of Kvothe's rise to legendary status, his adventures recounted in songs and stories across the world, is nothing short of extraordinary. I’ve never connected so deeply with a protagonist. Kvothe is incredibly intelligent, charming, kind, courageous, and so much more. His perspective on the world is pure, romantic, and simply beautiful. Even years after finishing the book, I still consider Kvothe a steadfast companion. I often find myself reflecting on his words and actions, seeking ways to apply his lessons to my own life. I could wax poetic about Kvothe’s character development for hours, but I could just as easily spend that time discussing the other remarkable aspects of The Kingkiller Chronicle. This series is a masterclass in world-building, seamlessly blending beauty and logic, danger and mystery. Every element of a great novel is present and accounted for. This book is, without exaggeration, essential reading. The novel is exquisitely written, the world meticulously crafted, and the characters are so endearing and intriguing that it’s impossible not to feel like part of their company. Readers will find themselves drawn to Kvothe, loving him as if he were a real person. The Name of the Wind is truly one of a kind.
