A very interesting vampire novel

S. Fischer am 05.02.2010

Bewertungsnummer: 625484

Bewertet: Buch (Taschenbuch)

Eleisha became a vampire in the 19h century. Since then she has been taking care of an old, mentally handicapped vampire and lived an extremely secluded life. She had few contacts, let alone friends in the vampire world. When one of her few friends is obviously not well, she goes to him only to witness as he commits suicide by running out into the sun. Unfortunately, he leaves behind not only corpses but also proof that she has been around longer than any human being would live. Soon she is on the run with the police - among them one with paranormal abilities - after her. The following events lead her back to her own roots as a vampire and will answer many of her questions about vampirism. This is an unusual book about vampires. It's not about the glory of being immortal, the usual eroticism, or the (often artificial) depressiveness of a vampire who feels guilty for feeding on people. It may sound strange to say this, but it is very realistic. If vampires existed, I could imagine them having some of the problems described in the book. There's a lot of depth, fascinating characters and a very interesting backstory regarding vampirism. I first read the edition by Vision Books who sold it as a stand-alone novel, and would say it can definitely be read on its own. Roc are selling it as the beginning of a new series, and it has the potential to be that, too. I would definitely recommend this book if you are interested in vampires and want to read a book with depth and an intelligent story.
