I haven't read much sci-fi but this book is absolutely top. Okorafor blends African culture, history and art with space travel and mathematics - an intoxicating mix that makes for one of the most creative and captivating experiences. Binti, who is from the Himba people, is invited to the galaxy's most prestigious school, the Oomza University. She leaves her village without her family's permission, boarding a spaceship and ending up in the middle of a galactic conflict, where she has to survive. Can she safe herself and stop a conflict and bloodshed with her intelligence and kindness? The only bad thing about this book is that it's short. Thankfully, there's a movie in the works!
