    Unmemorable, short, overpriced

    I bought the book because I found the synopsis compelling. The book (more a booklet at 149 pages) is easy enough to read, but completely unremarkable. The "murderbot" behaves like just another person, only that it easily recovers from being shot. The other characters in the book are indestinguishable from each other - with the exception of the leader, and a slightly antagonistic "good guy" - and are generally all unmemorable. I finished the book this morning and could not tell you the names of any of the characters (it is the early afternoon now). Even at the discounted price, this is overvalued. I'd say 7 EUR would be a fair price. I cannot explain the parallels drawn to Andy Weir's books by other reviews. They would certainly never cross my mind. Humor is subjective, of course. I had a few laughs reading "The Marsian" and "Projcet Hail Mary". I didn't while reading this book. Make of that what you will. The premise of the story is intriguing, but it would have to be tackled differently.

    I loved this!

    This read was surprisingly funny and I loved it! Even though the protagonist is a robot, they are actually really relatable and awkward. Really enjoyed this and am looking forward to reading the next entries in the series!!!

    The Murderbot Diaries begin

    The first in the series, All systems red, introduces Murderbot. Murderbot is a sentient security unit assigned to a spaceship of scientists who is not very fond of people. Most of all, it simply wants to be left alone. However, when the scientists on the craft are informed of a nearby mission becoming unresponsive, it is up to the crew to discover what might have happened to them. In the following expedition, Murderbot is challenged in whether or not it can and wants to protect those it was programmed to. This book is an enthralling quick read and a great start to a very entertaining series. The Murderbot character is a great choice of a narrator as the unit describes its surroundings and experiences of humans intriguingly.

    Qualitativ sehr gut, auf…

    Qualitativ sehr gut, auf meinen PocketBook E-reader automatisch schön ausgestellt. Das ist das erste Buch in die Serie The Murderbot Diaries. Die Sprache ist eher einfacher. Story sehr viel Spaß.

    Laden, entsichern und...depressiv werden?

    'Murderbot', eine SecUnit, die sich diesen Namen in Ermangelung einer eigenen Identität gegeben hat, verbringt ihre Zeit am liebsten damit, Serien zu bingen, seitdem sie sich aus ihrer betriebsbedingten Knechtschaft freigehackt hat. Gäbe es da nicht das Problem, das sie noch immer Eigentum der Firma ist, die sie zusammengeschraubt hat, und daher weiter außerirdische Monster kaputtballern oder – ungleich schlimmer – mit Menschen reden muss, um nicht aufzufallen. Die erste Geschichte in der Murderbot-Reihe kommt als recht knappe Novelle daher und drückt auch was das Handlungstempo angeht ordentlich aufs Gas. Dadurch fühlt sich das ganze eher wie die erste Folge einer Sci-Fi-Serie an, was aber nichts Schlechtes sein muss. Sowohl Liebhaber kurzweiliger Weltraum-Abenteuer auf fremden Planeten als auch Freunde depressiver KIs (Marvin lässt grüßen) kommen hier auf ihre Kosten.
