Ever since their entire family died of arsenic poisoning, sisters Mary Katherine and Constance and their demented uncle Julian have lived in the family estate by themselves. All is well until the day their Cousin Charles arrives, an invader to their peaceful life. Merricat must try her hardest to protect her family, and as she resorts to increasingly sinister actions, one can't help but cheer her on. Childish, earnest and playful as she is, there is something cruel and violent lurking beneath, getting more and more apparent over the course of the story as it finally concludes in tragedy.
