Mein absolutes Lieblingsbuch, würde es am liebsten gleich nochmal lesen! Ein absolutes Meisterwerk, das einfach gelesen werden muss… Los gehts, ab in die Geschichte von Evelyn Hugo!

Monique gets asked by the Hollywood icon Evelyn Hugo to write a story about her. What she does not know, is that the appointment is not for “just” a story, but for Evelyn to tell Monique her life story to be put into a book after her death. While Monique is struggling in her own life she agrees to the deal. To write the book she spends many days with Evelyn telling her story about glamour, struggles and her seven husbands. During this time Monique starts to relate to Evelyn, but how will she feel at the end? The book is incredibly well written and really shows the life in Hollywood during “The Golden Age”. Evelyn as a character is disturbing. On the one hand you want to like her, on the other you want to dislike her. Her actions, while often understandable, are very selfish and she learnt to put herself first very early on. Still a while after having finished the book I cannot say if I would be able to forgive her actions if I were Monique.  I highly recommend everyone to read the book.

this was one of my first "just literature/fiction" books and I loved everything about it. Normally I am into fantasy/scifi, but this made me interested in so much more. I also fell in love with reids writing. this was not only entertaining, but also meaningful and i adored the themes of feminism, lgbtqia+, own choice and life over all. the ending is absolutely perfect. oh, and the obv taylor swift relatedness of it all is a big plus. (maroon meets the lucky one)

Dieses Buch! Wow, mir fehlen einfach die Worte. Ich kann nicht wirklich beschreiben was es mit diesem Buch auf sich hat. Ich bin eigentlich eine sehr langsame Leserin aber dieses Buch habe ich an 2 Abenden nach der Arbeit verschlungen. Ich bin Blind eingestiegen, Freunde von mir haben es mir empfohlen und ich habe es gekauft… ohne mir auch nur ein mal anzuschauen worum es irgendwie geht. Mein Hauptgedanke während dem lesen war „ich versteh es nicht“ ich verstehe nicht warum mich dieses Buch so packt und verzaubert. Um es mit Moniques Worten zu beschrieben : „Some days I find myself convinced that I admire her more than anyone I’ve ever met, and other days I think of her as a liar and a cheat.”

Where to start with The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo? As I do not want to spoil anyone who has yet to read this wonderful story, I'll keep it as broad as possible without leaving out the biggest selling points of it. Firstly, I could probably write a whole essay about it and still miss things to point out, that only come to mind months later - because that's what sort of book this one is. It made me think about so many things. It made me look at my own life, how I lead it and how I treat others. If a book does that, it's (most of the times) a very good book. I'll admit that it took some time for me to get into the story but once I did, it had my full attention. There's Evelyn's story with the question at the forefront of how she got to marry 7 men. But somewhere within the narration you start to consider every other aspect of her life, her decisions, her character and her surroundings. The way Evelyn's story is portrayed - by her telling it herself - is so honest, so blunt, and I LOVED that. Nothing's sugarcoated, not the mistakes of others nor her own shortcomings. It tells of life, raw and unabashed, of missed opportunities, of selfishness, of trying to be oneself and figuring out what this actually means and looks like for oneself. I don't think any review will ever encompass everything this book is. It's one of those stories you have to experience yourself, as the thoughts it'll provoke will be so unique and so subjective. That's why I'll leave it at that with one last thing: READ THIS BOOK if you want to ponder and muse life and how different it is for everyone of us.
