    Bloody amazing

My favourite Abercrombie book so far. While I struggled a bit with the previous three books, the original "First Law"-trilogy, this book kept me on the edge from the prologue until the very last sentence. The story might seem like a simple revenge-plot, but the pacing is amazing and the characters, my god the characters. Such an interesting and intriguing cast, everyone uniqe, everyone with their own hidden motives, no one quite good yet no one quite evil... Be aware though, if you are looking for main characters that are genuinely righteous, if you are looking for a book where virtuousness gets rewarded, this might not be for you. But that's just Joe Abercrombie. If that's no problem for you though, I urge you to read this book!

With a side dish of guts

If you like stories with real grit, blood, guts, betrayals, and about a million twists and turns throughout, this book will serve all of it and more on a silver platter and shove it right into your undeserving face, page after page. "Best Served Cold" is set shortly after the end of the "First Law" trilogy. If you're familiar with it, there's going to be a lot of moments of ever-so-fond reminiscing as familiar characters step back onto the scene. There's not much more to say, really, as anything could be a potential spoiler. Read it. Digest it. Fall in love with every character, break up with them over a tragically contrived misunderstanding, then fall in love all over again as you reconcile with them and their past. Yes, the novel is *that* good. Pick it up, and curse my name for recommending it to you in the first place because you will have a hard time putting it down. You're welcome.

    Buch (Taschenbuch)

This was so brutal, and so, SO entertaining

In Styria rages a war since 19 years. Monza and her brother lead a mercenary group under the command of the ruthless Grand Duke Orso. However, fearing their growing popularity could lead to betrayal, Duke Orso betrays them first, orchestrating the murder of Monza and her brother with the help of six accomplices. Against all odds, Monza survives after her body is thrown off a cliff, is pieced back together by a mysterious doctor, and swears vengeance on Duke Orso. Together with her allies, she sets out to eliminate the seven men responsible for her brother’s death. What can go wrong, goes utterly wrong and escalates and the path of vengeance brings her many more enemies. Pun intended: This book was bloody amazing. The Story is full of betrayals, gore and unexpected twists. The action was thrilling and excessively brutal. The characters were nothing short of extraordinary – a maddening mix of figures to revile and to adore, to share in their triumphs and tragedies. I found myself entwined in their struggles, grappling with the unsettling truth that each one was utterly despicable, leaving me torn between longing to embrace them or wishing them poisoned to end their reign of havoc. You can read this novel as a standalone novel, but it makes way more fun recognizing the side characters known from the First Law Trilogy. For those seeking a dark and brutal fantasy, “Best Served Cold” is an excellent choice.
