Lauren Loscig 's debut novel "War Hour" is the first book of The Broken Trials series. I had the honor to receive an arc and from the very first page, I knew I was going to love it. The entire book is so thrilling, I just couldn't put it down.
We get to read the story from Lysta's pov and get a great insight on her feelings and thoughts. She's such a badass main character, I immediately fell in love with her.
I loved Lauren's type of writing, the worldbuilding, the court politics, the amazing characters, the action throughout the whole book, the romance, .. I could go on and on. I haven't been this invested in another book since I've read the acotar series. I had such a big book hangover afterwards. I can't say enough how much I loved "War Hour". I will definitely be reading the next book as soon as it releases

I wanted more Torryn and I’m not sorry
3,75 Stars ⭐️ War Hour follows Lysta, and begins with a harsh life, no money (same) and no support on the unforgiving streets of Valor. After a small series of events she ends up being forced into facing a deadly trial that leaves her stronger than ever. Is the man next to her someone she can trust? Will she come out of this alive and fight for her people? She grapples with shattered perceptions of her world, questioning the trust she placed in those around her and the persistent lies she had been fed. And AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH THE CLIFF HANGER! I WANTED TO SEE MORE OF TORRYN! ✨
I first read War Hour back in 2023 as an ARC reader, and now I’ve decided to pick it up again since the second book in the series is coming out soon. This one’s got enemies to lovers, a strong FL, a charming ML, slow burn, found family, politics, no spice, and powers earned through deadly trials. ✨
I do wish we’d gotten deeper into the FL’s mind and her connections with others it felt a little surface-level at times. It’s plot heavy, but the worldbuilding isn’t overly complex and it's predictable here and there (which honestly isn’t always a bad thing). Character wise, it’s definitely a bit lacking, so don’t be surprised if you struggle to really connect with them. ✨
That said, the pacing? Fantastic. That alone got me hyped for more from Lauren Loscig. Overall, it’s a strong debut, and I’m definitely looking forward to book two.
