Ich habe bereits den ersten Band auf Deutsch verschlungen und wollte nicht auf die Übersetzung warten :D Mich hat lange nichts mehr so gepackt wie Iron Widow und Heavenly Tyrant, auch wenn sie in Teilen keine leichte Lektüre sind (die Inhaltswarnungen sind absolut angebracht). Wer Pacific Rim (aber mit chinesischer Mythologie und Geschichte), nicht vor fiktionaler Gealt zurück schreckt und darüber hinaus queere Repräsentation sucht, ist hier genau richtig!

'Heavenly Tyrant' was amazing. Following a (legendary - in my opinion) book, that not only hooked me immediately but also gave me the most unhinged and silliest grin in a long time. Zhao is an artist and I can't wait for more of Zetian. There was one thing thought that did not sit right with me . Yizhi like what?! I did not see that coming. (I won't tell! It's a big spoiler!) Anyhow - 'Iron Widow' and 'Heavenly Tyrant' were revelations. Female Rage - chinese culture - enemies-to-lovers - friend to lovers - read the content warnings. And enjoy.

Worth the wait

Zetian has achieved her goal: She´s the empress of Huaxia. Well, kind of. She finds herself once again relying on a man, the legendary former emperor she herself revived. Even though the two of them can´t stand each other, they are forced to work together to protect their newly founded empire, and, when a threat bigger than any they´ve faced before looms, they have to rise to heights they never could have imagined before. Just like the first book in the series, "Heavenly Tyrant" is a lot of fun to read, with all the drama and romance and the big meccha fights. The only thing I didn´t fully enjoy where the "Socialism 101" parts of the book. Not because I don´t like the revolutionary themes of the story, but because the explanation parts felt a little forced at some points, like the characters where holding a lecture and not having an organic conversation. But those parts are so few and far between that they didn´t really bother me while reading the book. The story did show some symptoms of second book syndrome, setting up a lot of interesting concepts that will (hopefully) be used more in the upcoming third book.
