Nice, slow burning mystery, with an ending like a Gordian knot solved.

Ingo Lembcke aus Hamburg am 24.12.2024

Bewertungsnummer: 2370772

Bewertet: Buch (Taschenbuch)

Review in English, as read the English version. Für deutsche, die deutsche Übersetzung als ebook (evt. auch andere Formate) ist deutlich herabgesetzt. Weiss nicht, ob das von Dauer ist. Nice, slow burning mystery, with an ending like a Gordian knot solved. Well, not for all of them. The characters are very well written. A few main POV-Chapters, so you get a feel for each of them, but some may not like the varying POV?! Set in the UK, and feeks like it! Gifted the German translation as an ebook when I saw it was quite reduced in price, to my mother, after finishing a third of the english ebook. Even with a few tears shed, this might just be right up her alley. In the end, I was surprised by how many died in the book, for a mystery quite a lot. Tis' XMas season, so 5 stars it is, and highly recommended from me. Will certainly read more books by this author. And also looking forward to the series, as this is being filmed as a TV-Series by Netflix with the author as producer.

Unique in all the right ways

Bewertet: Buch (Taschenbuch)

Who says there is an age limit on crime? If you ask the Thursday Murder Club they definitely disagree with you. We follow the lovable group through solving their cold cases and when they have a proper exciting recent murder on their hands, nobody can tell them to keep out of it. Especially not the police who'd be completly lost without their input, if we're all being honest. What makes this novel truly unique is how it is written. Almost every chapter the reader can follow a different character and gain a glimps into their mind. Intersected are short diary entries by Joyce, the newest club member, who is happy to sit quietly by and observe. However, that does not mean one should count on her not figuring things out. This style of writing by Osman lends the story a depth that it uses to build its mystery. A genuinly fun read with characters you can't help but cheer on. For all those who've loved Agatha Christie's Mrs. Marple.
