Enjoy the voyage to the stars

To Sleep in a Sea of Stars does remind me of known Science fiction films and series. It’s all together into one book, research, adventure, expeditions battles, you name it, all there. The author tries hard to hit as many spots as possible. This ultimately turns the story into a complex adventure, all this needs time to develop and thrive. Due to the length, the characters get a lot of attention and become familiar. For me, Kira Navarez is still my favourite, I’ve never encountered such a strong-willed personality before. One negative point I encountered, was the high amount of side plots and appearances, this confused me. More than once I felt like stopping altogether, but then a wave of suspense caught me again and I kept going. Reading it always felt like a constant up and down not knowing where the next high wave of suspense would appear. Despite the many pages, you can’t put it down and I’m glad I finished it. I hope that they pull through with the film adaptation soon. Mostly to see how the plot was implemented.

Strange but enchanting

Having read the Eragon series I was eager to read the new novel of Christopher Paolini. I really liked his Eragon-world, he is a wonderful writer and has a seemingly endless imagination. The title of his new book is also very appealing, as it promises a completely different setting. And so it is: sleeping in a (...) is set in a futuristic world, where humanity not only lives on mother earth but also in the vast endlessness of the universe, in different galaxies, since we have managed to travel fast than light (FTL). Nevertheless we appear to be the only ones inhabiting space, although there are some traces of different species, and the protagonist of the novel makes first contact with alien life forms. Paolini manages to tell his story, although it is so very different from his previous tales, as lovingly and in detailed account as in Eragon. The protagonist and her alien-suit are depicted in way that you really feel and care for her: she must look truely strange, but she is always human - until the end she never lets go of her human self. All the other characters, the setting and the story are inventive, fascinating and enchanting. I thought the story was very thrilling and one really wants to know Kyra's final destiny. I only spaced out a bit in the very detailed battle scenes, but well, that happens to me too when I watch Star Wars movies. So it does have some lengths, but all in all it's a great and entaining book from a wonderful writer. Definitely worth reading!
